Tadjoura

Djibouti's oldest town and the capital of Tadjoura region, it gave its name to the Gulf of Tadjoura. Originally it was a small village of the Afar tribe, whose main economy was the slave trade. It lies at the foot of the Goda Mountains. Several peaks rise to more than 1300m (4260ft) behind the town. The beach is beautiful and there are superb coral reefs accessible close to shore.

Tadjoura is a short ferry ride from Djibouti city.
