Usama Mohammad
(1954 - )
Born in 1954 in Latakia,
Syria. Mohammad graduated from the Moscow University in 1979
as a film director.
He was assistant director to
Mohammad Malas on the film City Dreams.
His first feature was Nujum al-nahar (Daytime’s Stars), 1988. It was
shown at the Cannes Film Festival in a special event called “Fifteen
Days for Directors”. The film won the Golden Palm prize in Valencia,
Spain the same year, and the International Critics Award.
The film has not been shown in Syria.
