Nazir Nabaa
(b. 1938)

A pioneer of modern art in Syria, Nazir Nabaa was born in Damascus and studied in oil painting in Cairo from1959–1965. He continued his training in Paris at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts from 1971–1974. After returning to Damascus he joined the Faculty of Fine Arts.

Nabaa is one of the most popular painters in Syria. He has been awarded honors and medals, including the "Prix de la peinture Ecole des Beaux-Arts Paris", and the Jury prize of the International Biennale of Cairo.

He has held exhibitions in Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and in many western capitals.
