Syrian writer and poet, Jabri was born and educated in Damascus. He left to Palestine, returning to Syria after World War I where he was appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Education in the government of King Faisal I. He headed the Higher School of Literature before becoming Dean of the Faculty of Literature at the University of Damascus. In 1926 he was elected a member of the Arab Scientific Assemblage in Damascus.
