Mamluks
Mamluks were slaves, mostly Turkish or Caucasian people, who were destined for a military career in 9th century Baghdad during the Abbasid era. In time they became a powerful military caste and seized power for themselves.
The Mamluks ruled Egypt and Syria from 1250 to 1517.
