Mohammad Abu Sall

(1976- )

Abu Sall was born in the Gaza Strip in 1976. He studied at the Islamic University in Gaza. He is a prolific painter and in a few years has produced several series. One set deals with Palestinians’ love of their land and the different realities of separation and exile. He uses abstract figures and faces either in groups or alone. In his most recent work, strong expressive images of cactus fill up his canvas, the cactus being a familiar Palestinian symbol.

The majority of his paintings feature landscapes. A series of four paintings titled “A strange body” depict with broad brushstroke and strong colors a close-up of an approaching tank, ready to destroy homes, property, agriculture, and human life.
Mohammad Abu Sall lives and teaches art to children in Breij refugee camp, Gaza.
