Bakry, Gamal

(1931- )

Gamal Bakry was born in Port Said, Egypt, in 1931. He received his degree in Architecture from Cairo University in 1956, and a Diploma in Town Planning from Rotterdam University in Holland.

He has lectured in the Department of Architecture at a number of universities in Egypt, among them Ein Shams, Cairo University and al-Azhar University and the Beaux Arts Faculty at Alexandria University, as well as a year at University of California at Berkeley.

In 1993 he completed his book, Architectural Picnic, Architecture of a Thousand Minarets, and he regularly publishes architectural and urban development articles in Al-Ahram daily newspaper.

He has been nominated three times for the
Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
